AN ADAMIÈ (1912–1995)

Bojan Adamiè and Film Music
Summary
The film music of Bojan Adamiè certainly occupies an important place in the history of
Slovene film. Its universality and individuality were demonstrated and validated through
more than half a century of Slovene and Yugoslavian film, making it unique on the one
hand, and on the other, placing it among the most outstanding European and global trends
of the time. His film scores draw on both popular melodies and more serious ruminations,
which place Adamiè among film composers of both the classical and contemporary
generations. His legacy includes more than 200 film music scores, among them music for
documentaries, television productions, short and feature films. The sheer scope and
diversity of his film music output prove once again what an interesting and versatile
personality Bojan Adamiè was. Yet, for him, the composing of film music was a
complement to all the rest and, above all, a union of visible and invisible art worlds. In the
few decades of his musical life, Bojan Adamiè was a leading figure in film music, and his
scores have gone down in the history of Slovene and Yugoslavian cinematography, which
most certainly gained its reputation thanks also to his exquisitely crafted music.29
