Online Self-Assessment as a Didactic Tool for Developing
and Reflecting on Digital Competences of Prospective Teachers
of German as a Foreign Language
Well-developed digital competences form an essential part of the professional
competences of modern foreign language teachers, as they enable educators
to effectively integrate digital tools into their teaching, thereby contributing
to the improvement of the learning process. At the same time, strong digital
competences also enable teachers to access and engage in their own profes-

assessment as a didactic tool in the course Didactics of German at the Faculty
of Arts, University of Ljubljana. By introducing self-assessment tasks, the aim
was to provide students with opportunities for continuous monitoring of their
understanding of didactic concepts while also systematically developing and
reflecting on their digital competences. Through the use of interactive tasks
created with H5P and collaborative activities within the online learning plat-
form (such as forums, wikis, chat tools, and collaborative writing), the inten-

abilities. Using the European DigCompEdu framework, which enabled a sys-
tematic observation of the development of key digital competences, the paper
demonstrates how students actively develop essential digital skills through
participation in online self-assessment. The findings show that digitally sup-
ported self-assessment not only verifies acquired knowledge but also plays
a crucial role in fostering digital and reflective competences – two key com-
