and Austria, a positive design is present, but gaps remain, particularly in the
areas of critical thinking, adaptability, and collective action. The article em-
phasizes the importance of sustainability as a fundamental value in education
and the need for further development of teacher education programmes that
are equipped to address future challenges. In this context, the sustainability
competence framework offers an important tool for systematically integrating
sustainability competences into teacher education programmes and encour-
ages changes in mindset and learning approaches.
