OB 70-LETNICI PRVEGA ITALIJANSKEGA VERZNEGA PREVODA PREŠERNOVE PESNITVE

Leta 1951 je italijanski slavist in slovenist Luigi Salvini (1911—1957) v cvetniku Sempreverde e rosmarino
(Zimzelen in rožmarin), ki ga je pod njegovim uredništvom izdala založba Carlo Colombo v Rimu, priobčil
svoj delni pesniški prevod Prešernovega Krsta pri Savici. Bila je to prva, čeravno necelovita, le 13 osmercev
obsegajoča italijanska prepesnitev najbolj znane slovenske »povesti v verzih«, ki je bila izvorno natisnjena leta
1836. Ob letošnji 70-letnici krstne objave Prešernove poeme pri Slovencem najbližjem romanskem sosedu bo
skušal prispevek osvetliti literarnozgodovinski kontekst, poglobiti vsebinske, retorične, oblikovne in jezikovne
značilnosti Salvinijevega prevoda ter ovrednotiti njegov recepcijski pomen, odmev in domet v sosednjem
italijanskem kulturnem prostoru.

THE ITALIAN BAPTISM OF THE BAPTISM ON THE SAVICA

AT THE SEVENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST ITALIAN VERSE TRANSLATION OF PREŠEREN’S LONG POEM

In 1951, an Italian scholar of Slavic and Slovenian studies, Luigi Salvini (1911—1957), published an incomplete
and poetic translation of Prešeren’s Krst pri Savici (The Baptism on the Savica) in the anthology Sempreverde
e rosmarino (Periwinkle and Rosemary), published under his editorship in Rome by the publishing house
Carlo Colombo. This was the first, though partial, merely 13 ottava rimas long Italian poetic rendition of the
most famous Slovenian »verse narrative«, which was originally published in 1836. On this year’s seventieth
anniversary of the »baptism« of Prešeren’s long poem in Slovenia’s closest living Romance neighbour,
the paper will try to shed light on the literary-historical context, and deepen the understanding of the
characteristics of Salvini’s translation in terms of content, rhetoric, form and language, and weigh the
significance of its reception, its impact and reverberations in the Italian cultural environment.
