Social and Emotional Learning and Generative Artificial Intelligence
                  in Higher Education
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the connections between social and emo-
tional learning and artificial intelligence literacy in higher education, with a focus
on opportunities to improve pedagogical practices. Social and emotional learning
includes self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, relationship skills, and re-
sponsible decision-making in educational contexts. Generative artificial intelligence
offers opportunities for personalized teaching, but its use requires specific knowl-
edge and caution due to ethical challenges and risks related to privacy and bias. This
chapter provides an overview of insights into the use of artificial intelligence to en-
hance social and emotional competencies. In the context of emerging social gener-
ative artificial intelligence, we explore the possibilities of using chatbots, intelligent
tutoring systems, and social robots, which enable personalization, social support,
and simulations of social skills. We emphasize the need for a comprehensive strate-
gy and collaboration among teachers, technology developers, and policymakers to
create a safe and effective learning environment that promotes critical thinking and
responsible use of AI in education.
Keywords: social and emotional learning, social generative artificial intelligence, high-
                  er education, personalized learning.
