a Bohak, SOLISTIÈNA POUSTVARJALNOST BARITONISTA SAMA VREMŠAKA
SOLO CAREER OF BARITONE SAMO VREMŠAK
Summary
Despite the fact that Samo Vremšak was primarily a composer and conductor, he left an
indelible mark in his almost forty-five year solo career as a baritone, which can be seen in
his regular participation in the festivals Revolucija in glasba, Kogojevi dnevi, Slovenski
glasbeni dnevi, independent concerts of sacred and secular works, as well as his regular
collaboration with the Consortium musicum choir and other ensembles. Taking all of this
into account, we can certainly say that the solo career of Samo Vremšak was a significant
element of his versatile work. He was a baritone of impeccable singing culture -
demonstrated by his extreme interpretations of solo songs in which it was possible to find
technically flawless performances as well as good diction and a specific tone of voice.
Vremšak, whose artistic career grew slowly and prudently, dedicated much to the
implementation of the Slovenian lied, interpretations of which were heard not only at
home but also abroad. This article highlights the solo career of Samo Vremšak, which may
have been neglected in the eyes of professional and lay audiences. Vremšak is
undoubtedly one of the most important Slovenian baritone singers of the second half of the
20th century.
