• While observing your surroundings, photograph something that
you find interesting. Present your photograph to other students,
describing what is in it, and explain why you took it. You can ask
your classmates to try to guess what is in the photo if the motif is
not entirely clear.
8. Raznolikost življenja/Biodiversity
• What is wilderness? Is it important for wildlife and humans? Can
it exist in the middle of a city?
• How are the fruits of trees and different wild plants used in the
local/Slovenian cuisine and medicine?
• Research the rules of safe and sustainable foraging and explo-
re the school surroundings with the task of distinguishing edible
and inedible plants.
• What animals have you noticed in or around your home? (e.g. Ne-
ar my home, I have already seen hedgehogs, frogs and deer.)
• Choose an animal that lives near your home. Research what this
species needs to survive and think of the possible threats this ani-
mal could be currently facing in your local environment. What
can you do to help this species thrive?
• Imagine what different animals living in the area would commu-
nicate to humans if we could understand them.
• Read a text and watch a video in English on the topic of biotic
communities, ecosystems, the biosphere and biodiversity.

Na prostem:
• Can you see any meadows, forests, fields, orchards, gardens and
areas that are difficult to categorise? Who or what crosses the bo-
undaries among them? Which of these spaces were created thro-
ugh human activity? Where do you see signs of human activity
and where signs of the ‘work’ of nature, where the interplay of the
two?
• How many different trees are you able to identify correctly based
on the shape of their leaves and their bark (in Slovenian)? What
do we call these trees in English?
• Do a BioBlitz (a survey of all the species you encounter on a walk)
with the help of an expert from the Barje Landscape Park. Which
of the species are endangered and which invasive? You can take
notes in both Slovenian and English. Prepare a report about yo-
