Abstract
Birth House, the Janša Beehive Farm, the Avenue of Great Men, the
Plečnik Monument, the Jalnova Birth House and three monuments
of national importance: the Prešeren Birth House, the Finžgar Birth
House and the village lime tree in Vrba. With the encouragement of
the Municipality of Žirovnica and positive trends in tourism develo-
pment, accommodation capacity has increased in recent years. During
the summer months, 57 % of all overnight stays were made. The rest
of the guests are day visitors, mainly local visitors and school grou-
ps. Tourists stayed on average 2.21 days in 2019 and 2.43 days in 2021.
The survey explored satisfaction with tourism in Žirovnica. Tourists
choose a tourist destination in the Land under the Table Mountains
because of the preservation of culture, satisfaction of the tourism ope-
rator, satisfaction with the development of tourism, benefits of the
local community, leisure opportunities, green environment and infor-
mation. The regression analysis confirmed that the tourism offer is re-
lated to the attractiveness of the tourist destination, cultural heritage,
nature and to an affordable tourist destination offering accommodati-
on. The correlation analysis confirmed that the friendly attitude of the
tourist workers and locals in the tourist destination, the infrastructure
and the organisation of cultural and tourist events that give the desti-
nation its attractiveness are important for tourism demand.
In the tourist-developed environment of the Gorenjska region, the
Radovljica Secondary School of Catering and Tourism has a strong co-
operation with the environment, not least because of the programmes
it teaches. Thirty per cent of the occupations are catering and tourism
technicians, 14 % each for catering technicians and hoteliers, just un-
der 9 % for catering technicians and the lowest for chefs and waiters.
We have found that over the last three years, there has been a decrease
of a quarter in the interest in training for vocational profiles in the
            catering and tourism sector.
The paper analyses secondary education in hospitality and tourism
in the Gorenjska tourist destination, which is the second most impor-
tant tourist destination in Slovenia in terms of tourist capacity, tourist
arrivals and tourist overnight stays. The focus in tourism development
is on higher quality facilities and higher income tourists, sustaina-
ble development of the tourist destination and education of tourism
            employees.
The survey was conducted at the Secondary School of Hospitality
and Tourism Radovljica and the survey data was analysed using qu-
