ers, organised in connection with the exhibition Baroque in Slovenia at the
National Gallery in Ljubljana. One of them selected an eighteenth-century
painting depicting a saint ascending to heaven where Virgin Mary welcomes
him in the company of angels (Figure 3, left image). As a typical Baroque reli-
gious scene, the artwork was particularly suitable for explaining stylistic and
formal characteristics of the period. The student simulated an activity where
high-school students make their own formal analyses of the painting, trans-
late them into English, and use these texts as input prompts for one of the AI
image generators.⁸ Afterwards, they compare the generated images with the
original artwork (Figure 3) and observe where their analyses lacked accuracy
or where they possibly overlooked relevant details.
