               baptisms become intermittent again; in this period, Černe men increas-
               ingly acted as godfathers only within their own family (compare figures
               4.2 and 4.3).
                 For a better evaluation of the share of godfatherhoods, the quantita-
               tive relation of the Černe family to all the households in Tomaj village rep-
               resents an important element. Unfortunately, no data is available on the
               families for the early eighteenth century upon which to calculate this ra-
               tio. In 1758, the Černe family lived on two farms with a branch on a third
               one.¹¹ In the next decades, the expansion of the Černes surpassed the aver-
